Slovenia showcases music and labour film festivals in 2024

The Slovene Music Days, founded in 1985, combines an international musicological symposium with concerts of contemporary Slovene music. Each year the symposium, led by musicologists such as Jernej Weiss and Primož Kuret, gathers around 30 scholars from across Europe to discuss a new theme, while performances feature the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra in venues like the Slovene Philharmonic Hall and the Knight's Hall at Križanke.

The KAMERAT Labour Film Festival, launched in 2021, is Slovenia’s first labour‑focused film festival. It commemorates the 1934 Hrastnik workers’ strike and uses film to explore workers’ rights, history, and future challenges. The festival screens films in an inactive coal‑mine tunnel and compressor station, and includes round‑table discussions, workshops, and exhibitions that involve trade unions, activists, and artists.
