Slovenia .si domain registrations surge following Trump speech

The Slovenian .si country code domain registry experienced a massive surge in registrations following a speech by Donald Trump at the United Nations. During the address, Trump introduced the term “super intelligence” to describe artificial intelligence, a move later reinforced by a U.S. executive order.

This shift in terminology triggered an immediate interest in domain names incorporating the new phrasing. The .si namespace reportedly doubled in size within just a few weeks, with approximately 46,000 domains registered in September alone.

Barbara Povše of the .si registry discussed the operational challenges posed by this sudden influx, noting that the registry had previously experienced relatively stable and predictable growth. The registry is currently evaluating adjustments to accommodate the increased demand and address technical hurdles faced by registrants and registrars during the peak.
