Slovenia to Host Israel's First Embassy after Janša Becomes Prime Minister

Janez Janša's right‑wing Democratic Party won a parliamentary majority in Slovenia and formed a new government. Shortly after his swearing‑in, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that Israel will open its first resident embassy in Ljubljana, ending years of diplomatic tension. The previous administration had taken a strongly anti‑Israel stance, refusing an Israeli airline landing and supporting calls to exclude Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest. Janša, a long‑time pro‑Israel politician, is described by Sa’ar as a "clear and constant friend of Israel," and the embassy opening is presented as a symbolic step toward normalising bilateral relations.
