Slovenia: Workplace injury protocols and adolescent health data

In Slovenia, employers must follow specific protocols when a workplace injury occurs. The immediate priority is providing medical care, followed by creating a detailed accident report including witness statements. Employers are required to report injuries resulting in at least one day of sick leave to the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS) and the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). Additionally, the Labor Inspectorate must be notified in cases of fatalities, accidents resulting in more than three days of absence, or collective accidents.

Data from the National Institute of Public Health regarding adolescents shows significant injury rates related to physical activity. Among 11-, 13-, and 15-year-olds, nearly half (49.6%) reported injuries during sports club activities, 43% during leisure time physical activity, and 24.8% during school physical education. While most injuries do not result in permanent damage, serious accidents can necessitate long-term rehabilitation, medical aids, or home adaptations, highlighting the importance of adequate disability insurance.
