Slovenian agriculture faces severe damage from drought

Severe drought and high temperatures are causing significant damage to agriculture in Slovenia, particularly affecting the Goriška region. The conditions have heavily impacted forage crops, corn, potatoes, and various vegetables. In some areas, such as Tolmin, crop yields have reportedly decreased by more than 50 percent.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Mojca Erjavec, noted that the drought threatens the survival of many producers and their families. While Slovenia has received 2.7 million euros at the European level, additional state measures are expected. Beyond field crops, the heat has also damaged permanent plantations, including vineyards and fruit trees, and has compromised the quality of grasslands and future fruit settings.
