Slovenian anti-corruption commission finds no conflict in Matož appointment or Golob Ugljan probe

The Commission for Prevention of Corruption (KPK) in Slovenia concluded several prior investigations involving senior officials. It found no substantiated conflict of interest in the appointment of Franci Matož as minister of interior and public administration, ruling that Prime Minister Janez Janša, who proposed the candidate, does not have a deciding role in ministerial appointments.

KPK also determined that there was no evidence of wrongdoing in former Prime Minister Robert Golob’s stay on the island of Ugljan or in alleged misuse of funds from state‑owned companies in cooperation with DC Limited. Additionally, the commission saw no breach in National Council president Marko Lotrič’s simultaneous holding of party leadership, stating that while permissible under the constitution, such dual functions pose systemic risk and should be managed.

The commission will issue recommendations on mitigating conflict‑of‑interest risks and improving oversight of political party financing.
