Slovenian athletes dominate Maribor national championships

At the Slovenian athletics national championships in Maribor, pole‑vault star Tina Šutej secured the title with a single 4.30 m jump in near darkness. Matic Ian Guček won the 400 m hurdles, while Kristjan Čeh achieved a new milestone by winning both the discus and the shot‑put, posting a 17.57 m throw in the latter.

Sixteen‑year‑old Živa Remic claimed her first outdoor club title by winning the 800 m in 2:05.95, and Maruša Mišmaš Zrimšek returned from injury and motherhood to win the 3000 m. Zala Istenič took the 200 m despite strong headwinds, and Andrej Skočir also triumphed in that event. Anže Durjava won the javelin with 75.95 m, and Jan Emberšič and Jakob Urbanč set personal bests in the hammer throw.

A late‑day thunderstorm delayed the second‑day programme and caused a 15 °C temperature drop. Šutej will next compete on the Diamond League circuit in Paris, and the next Slovenian meeting is scheduled for Novo mesto on 1 July.
