Slovenian Chapels Host Annual Religious Ceremonies

In the village of Spodnji Kamenščak, the Fričova chapel held its traditional village farewell ceremony on 2 August. New Ljutomerski priest Marjan Pučko performed the rite, followed by a gathering at the local firehouse where donor Slavko Semenič contributed. The chapel, dedicated to Saints Mohor and Fortunat, was originally built in 1895 and has undergone several restorations, the most recent bell addition in 2001.

On Slovenia’s highest shrine, the St Mary Snow chapel on Kredarica (2 511 m), a mass was celebrated after the chapel’s reconstruction in 1992. The original chapel was erected in 1896 by priest Jakob Aljaž and rebuilt with the help of volunteers, drawing over 5 000 faithful, including 80 clergy, to the dedication ceremony led by Archbishop Alojzij Šuštar. The chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, features a baroque altarpiece by Fortunat Bergant and three bronze bells.
