Slovenian consumer test finds children's UV shirts inadequate, highlighting skin‑cancer risks

The Slovenian Consumer Protection Association (Zveza potrošnikov Slovenije) examined 20 child‑focused UV‑protective shirts and discovered that seven of them did not provide the promised level of protection and contained concerning chemicals. The association warned that effective UV shielding, alongside avoiding excessive sun exposure, is essential for preventing skin damage.

Separately, the Oncology Institute in Ljubljana and the National Melanoma Patients Society emphasized that over‑exposure to UV radiation remains the leading risk factor for skin melanoma, which ranks sixth among cancers in Slovenia. They urged the public to use high‑SPF sunscreen, UV‑protective clothing, and regular skin checks to reduce the growing incidence of melanoma, which now affects more than 10,000 Slovenians.
