Slovenian cultural and educational buildings undergo major renovations

Slovenia has completed two significant infrastructure renovation projects in Novo mesto and Škofja Loka, largely funded by European Union resources.

In Novo mesto, the Narodni dom, a cultural monument of national importance, has been fully restored following a four-million-euro project. The approximately 150-year-old building, which holds historical significance as the site where Olympian Leon Štukelj began his gymnastics training, will now serve as a hub for cultural events and a seat for the University of Novo mesto. The renovation included structural stabilization, facade updates, and the creation of a multipurpose hall and a permanent museum collection dedicated to Štukelj. Approximately 2.9 million euros of the project cost was provided by EU funds.

In Škofja Loka, the Dijaški dom has undergone a nearly six-million-euro renovation to modernize student housing. The project, which included structural and energy efficiency upgrades, provides 95 beds in air-conditioned rooms with private sanitary facilities. The renovation was supported by 3.7 million euros in EU recovery and development funds, alongside contributions from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the Škofja Loka School Center.
