Slovenian Culture Ministry Faces €8.9 Million Funding Gap

At the 11th session of the National Council for Culture held on 27 July 2026, Culture Minister Ignacija Fridl Jarc reported an estimated €8.9 million shortfall in the Ministry’s budget. She outlined plans to rebalance the budget and keep existing program contracts, but warned that insufficient funds could force cuts, including the cancellation of a €2 million media‑employment grant for 2026‑27 and a €60 000 media‑literacy call.

The Association’s rapid survey highlighted the impact of halted public calls and delayed financing on cultural projects, estimating multi‑million‑euro losses. In parallel, the future of the Public Institute for Development of Contemporary Dance Art remains uncertain because the Ministry lacks the earmarked capital and the founding contract does not clearly define the required funding. Local mayors from Nova Gorica and Celje participated in the discussion, underscoring the institute’s precarious financial outlook.
