Slovenian deputies propose dismissal of Deputy Speaker Avšič Bogovič

Members of the Slovenian National Assembly have submitted a proposal to dismiss Deputy Speaker Nataša Avšič Bogovič, representing the Freedom Movement. The proposal was signed by deputies from the SDS, NSi, SLS, Fokus, and Resnica parties.

The opposition parties allege that Avšič Bogovič failed to chair an extraordinary session in accordance with parliamentary rules and constitutional principles. Specifically, they claim she allowed unequal treatment and discrimination among deputies based on political affiliation. The signatories cited instances of interrupting speakers, inconsistent application of parliamentary rights, and behavior that could be perceived as mocking or disparaging.

Avšič Bogovič has rejected the allegations, characterizing the move as an attempt to divert attention. She stated her commitment to upholding the rule of law and constitutional procedures. Borut Sajovic, the head of the Freedom Movement parliamentary group, condemned the proposal as “low and shameful,” arguing it constitutes an attack on female politicians and seeks to demand submissive behavior from women in leadership.
