Slovenian diplomats gather for foreign policy retreat

The annual Slovenian diplomatic retreat has commenced at Brdo pri Kranju, marking the first such gathering under Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer. Prime Minister Janez Janša is scheduled to address the diplomats to discuss the nation's foreign policy directions.

Minister Kajzer has emphasized a pragmatic foreign policy focused on national interests, prioritizing cooperation with neighboring countries and strengthening ties with the United States. While many policy directions remain consistent with the previous administration, shifts have been noted regarding Middle Eastern affairs and relations with Israel.

The retreat also highlights internal political nuances, such as the differing views on Russia held by Speaker of the National Assembly Zoran Stevanović, who has expressed interest in visiting Moscow, contrasting with the government's stance on maintaining sanctions. The event will feature addresses from President Nataša Pirc Musar and guest Anita Orban, the new Hungarian Foreign Minister.
