Slovenian equestrian coach's license suspended amid abuse allegations

The Equestrian Federation of Slovenia has suspended the license of a long-time coach at the Velenje Equestrian Club following allegations of systematic sexual abuse, harassment, and physical violence.

Former riders have come forward with testimonies spanning at least 15 years, alleging a pattern of grooming and exploitation. The coach reportedly used his authority to offer benefits such as better horses, cheaper training sessions, and competition opportunities in exchange for sexual favors. Some victims reported that the coach threatened to release private photos or videos if they attempted to end the relationships or refused his advances.

Reports indicate that while many victims were approximately 18 years old at the start of these encounters, at least one victim was a minor. The Equestrian Federation of Slovenia issued a statement condemning all forms of violence, abuse, and the misuse of power, particularly involving children and vulnerable individuals. The Celje Police Directorate has been notified of the situation, though they declined to comment on specific individuals due to privacy laws.
