Slovenian experts address technological gaps and critical raw materials

At the IMPULZ 2026 international business forum in Ljubljana, experts highlighted a significant gap between technological potential and its actual application within the Slovenian economy. Discussions revealed that the primary obstacle to development is no longer the technology itself, but rather outdated mindsets, established work processes, and slow decision-making. Data from the Office of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (UMAR) indicated that 57% of small, 39% of medium, and 20% of large companies do not recognize digitalization as relevant to their operations. Concerns regarding legislation, data protection, and the inability to identify business benefits were also cited as barriers to artificial intelligence adoption.

Additionally, the Jožef Stefan Institute has announced the Slovenian Symposium of Citizen Science, scheduled for October 23, 2026. The event, titled ‘Critical Raw Materials for Strategic Technologies through the Eyes of Youth,’ will focus on the role of critical and strategic resources in modern technologies, including renewable energy, electronics, and medical solutions. The symposium aims to connect young researchers and students with professionals to discuss recycling, rare earth elements, and the human rights implications within global supply chains.
