Slovenian farmers face livestock sales amid severe drought

Severe drought conditions in Slovenia are significantly impacting agricultural production and livestock management. On the Kocbek family farm in Zgornji Voličini, the lack of moisture has led to substantial reductions in crop yields.

Grassland production is down by approximately 50 percent, while corn yields are expected to be only 60 to 70 percent of a normal harvest. In some areas, corn crops may fail entirely. Barley yields have also seen a 20 percent decrease.

The shortage of fodder is forcing farmers to use winter supplies prematurely to supplement grazing, which is currently 40 to 50 percent lower than usual. Due to these pressures, some farmers have already been forced to sell livestock.
