Slovenian football: Coaching shifts and cup upsets

Significant developments have occurred in Slovenian football, including coaching changes and cup upsets. Zoran Zeljković has officially been appointed as the new head coach of NK Celje, moving from FC Koper. The transition involved the departure of Koper’s entire coaching staff, including assistants Džengis Čavušević and Jovan Vidović. Zeljković’s move to the reigning champions reportedly involved a compensation fee of approximately 300,000 euros.

In the Pivovarna Union Cup, third-tier side Korotan Prevalje secured a major upset by defeating NK Maribor. Despite a goal from Tshipamba that briefly leveled the score, Korotan maintained their lead to advance to the third round. Meanwhile, NK Aluminij delivered a dominant performance in their own cup fixture, defeating Mura with a score of 10-2 to advance to the second round.

Aluminij coach Jura Arsić commented on the tactical challenges of facing top-tier sides, comparing the difficulty of playing against the high-quality Celje squad to racing against a vehicle with significantly more horsepower.
