Slovenian Janša government appoints new police chief and intelligence director

The newly installed government of Prime Minister Janez Janša held its inaugural session and announced its first personnel changes. General Director of the Police, Damjan Petrič, was removed and career police officer Danijel Lorbek was named acting director. Lorbek, a former head of the Police Administration in Maribor and former adviser to the police chief, has experience from the EU-Western Balkans summit in 2021.

The government also dismissed Joško Kadivnik as director of the Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency (SOVA) and re‑appointed Janez Stušek for a second five‑year term. Stušek, a lawyer and former director of the agency during Janša’s third cabinet, has a background in security studies and European affairs.

In addition, Anže Logar and Jernej Vrtovec were appointed deputy prime ministers, and Janko Preac was named acting director of the Financial Administration (FURS). These appointments mark the first major reshuffle of the Janša administration.
