Slovenian municipal leaders outline plans ahead of local elections

As local elections in Slovenia approach in approximately three months, municipal leaders are outlining their records and future agendas.

In Cerkvenjak, Mayor Marjan Žmavc reported completing several infrastructure projects during his current mandate, including the construction of eight kilometers of local roads and ten kilometers of public water supply. Other completed works include a parking lot with electric charging stations, outdoor fitness equipment, and the acquisition of space for a pharmacy. He noted that a planned sports hall remains unfulfilled due to budget constraints.

In Nova Gorica, Samo Turel has officially confirmed his candidacy for mayor representing Gibanje Svoboda. Turel’s platform focuses on economic development, housing policy—specifically assisting young people with first-time home purchases—and addressing parking issues. He also highlighted plans for a business incubator managed by the Primorska Technology Park to connect education with the economy, alongside investments in tourism infrastructure near the Soča and Lokve areas.
