Slovenian municipalities announce mayoral candidates for 2026 elections

Candidates have been announced for the upcoming local elections in the Slovenian municipalities of Domžale and Ljutomer, scheduled for November 15, 2026.

In Domžale, incumbent Mayor Renata Kosec is seeking re-election to continue her current projects. She faces five challengers, including Matej Zabret of Gibanje Svoboda, who focuses on housing for youth and elderly populations, Tomaž Deželak of SDS, who proposes an eight-year development plan including new schools and underground parking, and Adis Škrijelj of the Social Democrats.

In Ljutomer, three candidates are running for mayor: incumbent Olga Karba, Niko Miholič, and Romana Fišinger. Karba aims to continue existing projects and secure non-refundable funds, while Miholič emphasizes demographic challenges and infrastructure. Fišinger’s platform focuses on connecting the town with its local communities through economic and agricultural development.
