Slovenian Parliament Approves Janez Janša's New Coalition Government

Slovenian parliament voted 49‑30 to confirm a new cabinet headed by former prime minister Janez Janša. The coalition brings together five parties – the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), Demokrati, NSi, SLS and Fokus – together holding 43 of the 90 seats, with informal support from the right‑wing Resnica party and representatives of national minorities.

Key ministers include Tone Kajzer (foreign affairs and European affairs), Franci Matoz (interior and public administration), Andrej Šircelj (finance), Borut Rončević (education and science), Anže Logar (economy, labour and sport), Tadej Ostrc (health), Jernej Vrtovec (infrastructure and energy), Janez Cigler Kralj (agriculture) and Valentin Hajdinjak (defence). Janša pledged to cut what he called “record‑high taxes”, reduce bureaucracy, combat corruption and give more powers to local authorities. He said he would invite opposition parties to cooperate on key legislation.

Opposition parties (Sloboda, Social Democrats, Levica and Vesna) warned the new government could deepen the public deficit, privatise health care and oppose the merger of the economy and labour ministries. This marks Janša’s fourth term as prime minister.
