Slovenian Parliament establishes Triglav Day as new state holiday
The Slovenian National Assembly has passed an amendment to the law on holidays and non-working days, introducing a new state holiday: Triglav Day. To be observed on August 7, the day commemorates the 1895 placement of the Aljaž Tower on Mount Triglav by Jakob Aljaž. While designated as a state holiday, it will not be a non-working day.
The legislative changes also included adjustments to the naming of other holidays. The holiday celebrating the unification of Prekmurje Slovenes with the mother nation will be observed on August 17, and the holiday marking the return of Primorska to the motherland will be observed on September 15.
During the session, Freedom Movement MP Martin Premk drew public criticism for unhygienic behavior on camera while the assembly was deliberating the holiday amendments.
