Slovenian Parliament President Stevanović Faces Dismissal Motion

Left‑wing opposition parties in Slovenia have lodged a proposal to remove Zoran Stevanović from his role as president of the National Assembly, accusing him of deliberately breaching the constitution. Opposition leader Luka Mesec and Social Democrats’ Meira Hot argue that Stevanović called a regular session, voted against a parliamentary agenda that would have enabled a probe, and thereby abused his constitutional powers. In response, Stevanović maintains he fulfilled all his duties, noting that the assembly’s rules allow members to convene extraordinary sessions and investigations. The motion, backed by 40 votes from three left‑wing parties, seeks to trigger a parliamentary inquiry into the alleged irregularities.
