Slovenian Parliament reviews consumer protection and traffic laws

The Slovenian Parliament is considering several legislative amendments aimed at enhancing consumer protection and updating traffic regulations. A major amendment to the Consumer Protection Act, passed with 50 votes in favor, incorporates European directives regarding remote financial services, consumer empowerment for the green transition, and rules for promoting product repairs.

Key provisions of the consumer protection updates include mandatory information for remote financial transactions, the right to human intervention before concluding contracts, and a ‘cancel’ button for online agreements. To combat ‘dark patterns’ that mislead consumers, new protections are being introduced. Additionally, the law aims to promote a circular economy by introducing standardized manufacturer durability labels, mandatory repair obligations for certain product groups, and extending the period of liability for non-conforming goods by 12 months.

Parallel legislative discussions include a new consumer credit law designed to strengthen protections for various lending models. In the realm of traffic safety, the Parliament is reviewing changes to alcohol testing procedures, proposing that breathalyzer indicators serve only as preliminary tests before formal breathalyzer or medical examinations. Furthermore, the legislature is addressing automated driving regulations, allowing for hands-free operation under specific conditions for vehicles with SAE J3016 Level 1, 2, or 3 automated systems. Finally, the Parliament will vote on the appointment of Arjana Brezigar to the Bank of Slovenia council.
