Koper police arrest Croatian national for ATM bombings
Slovenian police have arrested a 51-year-old Croatian national in connection with a series of explosive attacks on ATMs in the Koper region. The suspect is linked to at least five incidents in municipalities including Ilirska Bistrica, Koper, and Divača.
Authorities reported that the suspect acted alone, often using rented vehicles and targeting isolated locations near the border. During a failed attempt in Senožeče on July 6, police apprehended the man after a brief chase. Officers seized an improvised explosive device containing military-grade explosives and a detonator.
While most attacks resulted in significant property damage to buildings and equipment, only one incident in Bertoki was successful in stealing cash. The suspect is facing multiple charges, including large-scale theft, illegal possession and trafficking of explosives, and causing general danger. He is currently in custody.
