Slovenian police say crypto‑scam fraud cost victims €102,000

Police in Celje and Kranj investigated two online fraud cases involving fake crypto‑trading offers. In one case, a man deposited €12,000 in an online casino, earned a profit, but when he attempted to withdraw the winnings his account was blocked and the original €12,000 was forfeited. In the second case, a victim was contacted by pretended crypto traders, gave the scammers access to her bank account, and more than €90,000 was transferred out to accounts abroad.

The police warned that criminals often pose as cryptocurrency traders via phone calls, e‑mail or SMS, urging victims to share personal or banking data. They urged anyone who receives such contacts to delete the messages, block the sender, refrain from providing any information, and report the incident immediately to the police and their bank. Evidence from the investigations has been forwarded to the state prosecutor’s office for further action.
