Slovenian Police warn of fraudulent court summons and phishing scams

Slovenian police authorities are warning the public about a surge in sophisticated phishing scams involving fraudulent “court summons.” Scammers are using the names of official institutions to gain credibility, specifically impersonating the acting Director General of Police, Danijel Lorbek, and misappropriating the official logos of Europol and the Ministry of Justice.

In the Celje region, police reported that six such scams occurred over a single weekend, resulting in losses exceeding 72,000 euros. These criminals typically use mass emails or phone calls to establish contact, eventually escalating claims of alleged legal violations to intimidate victims into transferring funds.

Authorities advise citizens to treat these communications as spam, avoid opening attachments or clicking links, and never provide personal data, passwords, or banking details. Police emphasize that neither banks nor service providers will call to request login updates or ask users to install specific applications via phone instructions.
