Slovenian Police Warn of Surge in Summer Home Burglaries and Scams

The Slovenian police have alerted the public to a rise in burglaries and fraud targeting homes during the summer holiday period. Criminals often disguise themselves as service technicians or company representatives, using false identification to gain entry and steal valuables or demand payment. Elderly and isolated residents are noted as frequent targets.

Police spokesperson David Gracer advised citizens to verify the identity of any visitors by checking official IDs and confirming appointments with the relevant companies. He recommended practical security measures such as keeping lights on (including smart bulbs), ensuring windows are closed and doors locked, using alarm systems and video surveillance, and coordinating with neighbours to monitor mail and vehicle presence at empty homes.
