Slovenian politicians allege misuse of public funds by NGOs and criticism of Demokracija magazine

Matej Lahovnik accused Slovenia’s Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (KPK) of ignoring the alleged appointment of former minister Tanja Fajon to a highly paid position funded with public money. He quoted, “KPK je slepa, ker gre za ‘našo’ Tanjo,” and noted a sharp increase in state funding for Sahel projects.

Nika Kovač announced that she will involve lawyers to sue the weekly Demokracija after the magazine reported that NGOs such as Institute 8. marec and the “My voice, my choice” platform received almost €3 million in EU and other foreign grants since 2022, allegedly exceeding legal limits for campaign financing. The reporting links the financing to the current government’s coalition and has prompted threats of legal action.
