Slovenian politics: Poklič named mayoral candidate; Klakočar Zupančič mocks MP
In Slovenske Konjice, the Social Democrats (SD) have announced Primož Poklič as their candidate for mayor. Poklič, a lawyer and current deputy mayor, has been serving in an acting capacity since Darko Ratajc left for the National Assembly. Poklič aims to build on existing foundations, emphasizing cooperation across political divides. His stated priorities include infrastructure projects such as the Gračič-Bezina waterworks, the expansion of the sports hall, and the development of local entrepreneurship and agriculture.
Separately, in Slovenian national politics, former Freedom Movement member Urška Klakočar Zupančič has drawn criticism following social media comments mocking coalition MP Aleksander Reberšek’s command of the Slovenian language. The dispute arose after Reberšek proposed that foreigners should learn basic Slovenian to qualify for social assistance. Reberšek reported that Klakočar Zupančič made disparaging remarks toward him during a personal encounter, leading to various public reactions regarding her conduct.
