Slovenian Prime Minister Janša proposes moving embassy to Jerusalem
Prime Minister Janez Janša announced that Slovenia plans to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The move would follow the same legal procedure as opening a new diplomatic mission: a decree by President Nataša Pirc Musar, based on a proposal from the foreign minister and a parliamentary recommendation.
The European Commission warned that the relocation would breach the EU’s common stance on Jerusalem’s status. Slovenia recognized Palestine on 4 June 2024, a decision supported by President Musar, who reaffirmed that foreign policy must respect international law and UN commitments.
