Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša marks Day of Sovereignty

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša delivered remarks during state celebrations in Koper to mark the Day of Sovereignty. The occasion commemorates the departure of the last Yugoslav People's Army (JLA) soldier from Slovenia on October 25, 1991.

In his address, Janša highlighted that Slovenia's independence 35 years ago was the result of a long struggle to preserve the Slovenian language, identity, and national existence. He noted that the departure of the final JLA units from the Port of Koper on October 25, 1991, established Slovenia as a truly sovereign state following the military aggression that began after the country's declaration of independence in June 1991.
