Slovenian prosecutors to appeal evidence exclusion in Satko Zovko murder case
The Specialized State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) in Slovenia has announced it will pursue legal remedies following a decision by the Ljubljana Higher Court to exclude certain evidence from the murder trial of Satko Zovko.
The excluded evidence was obtained through covert investigative measures, specifically the tracking of a device found in the victim's vehicle. The Higher Court ruled that the conditions for issuing such warrants required re-evaluation. While the court ordered the lower court to reassess the legality of this evidence, the SDT maintains that the warrants were issued and executed in full accordance with the law.
Despite the exclusion of these specific materials, the SDT confirmed it will proceed with the murder indictment, asserting that sufficient alternative evidence exists to meet the required evidentiary standards against the defendants. Additionally, the SDT head, Ivan Pridigar, indicated that the office intends to propose changes to criminal procedural legislation following this development.
