Slovenian residents hold over 4 billion euros in foreign accounts

Data from the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (Furs) reveals that Slovenian tax residents hold more than 656,000 financial accounts abroad, with a total value exceeding 4 billion euros.

Analysis shows that approximately 274,000 residents have registered accounts in foreign jurisdictions. While Lithuania leads in the number of accounts, primarily through neobanks like Revolut, Ireland and Cyprus have emerged as significant hubs for investment. Specifically, Slovenian residents hold nearly 29,000 accounts in Ireland, totaling over 500 million euros. This trend is attributed to the use of online investment platforms such as Interactive Brokers, which is headquartered in Dublin.

Other notable locations include Austria, where Slovenians have invested over 1 billion euros, and Switzerland, which holds 16 percent of their foreign assets. In contrast, accounts in Lithuania represent a high volume of users but only account for 4 percent of the total capital held abroad, suggesting they are used mainly for daily transactions.
