Trump's 'super intelligence' rebrand sparks Slovenian domain surge
President Donald Trump has issued an executive order directing U.S. federal agencies to replace the term ‘artificial intelligence’ with ‘super intelligence’ or ‘SI’ in official communications, reports, and digital platforms. The administration argues that the word ‘artificial’ is misleading and that the new terminology better reflects the reality of the technology.
This policy shift has triggered a massive surge in registrations for the ‘.si’ country-code top-level domain belonging to Slovenia, as the abbreviation for ‘super intelligence’ matches the Slovenian suffix. According to Register.si, registrations jumped from fewer than 2,000 in August to approximately 44,000 in September, representing a more than 2,100 percent increase. Much of this activity is attributed to speculative cyber-squatting by investors and tech companies.
The rebranding has met political resistance in California, where Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order requiring state agencies to continue using the term ‘artificial intelligence’ and the abbreviation ‘AI,’ arguing that changing terminology does not mitigate the actual security risks associated with the technology.
