Slovenian Social Democrats refuse Janša's 'Successful Slovenia' partnership

The presidency of Slovenia's Social Democrats (SD) voted to reject the partnership proposal offered by Prime Minister Janez Janša, known as the "Successful Slovenia" partnership. Party president Matjaž Han said the decision was taken after serious discussion at a Monday session and that a partnership cannot be created merely by signing a document.

Han emphasized that SD remains committed to dialogue and will cooperate with the government on legislation that improves the country, but the lack of trust and unmet conditions prevent a formal partnership. The party’s response was sent to the government secretary in the prime minister’s cabinet. He also recalled that SD previously participated in a development partnership during Janša’s first term, noting that the political context has changed. Despite the refusal, SD stresses that the door for dialogue stays open and that they will continue to act responsibly as the opposition.

The rejection signals potential challenges for the new coalition’s stability as the opposition party seeks to influence policy without joining the formal partnership framework.
