Slovenian Swimmers Target Finals at European Championships in Paris

Paris hosts the European Championships in swimming and water sports from 10 to 16 August. Slovenia will be represented by a four‑person squad in the pool events and by Špela Perše in open‑water swimming. The team’s primary aim, according to selector Tomaž Torkar, is to reach the finals, with Neža Klančar identified as the most competitive swimmer and a realistic candidate for a final berth.

Torkar noted that other swimmers such as Tina Čelik, Sašo Boškan and Primož Šenica Pavletič are well prepared, but the squad faces challenges after the loss of Olympic finalist Katja Fain to injury and Janja Šegel, who has not met the qualifying standard. The coach highlighted the need to close a talent gap that has emerged in Slovenian elite swimming, while hoping the athletes can improve on past performances at the 2024 European Championships in Belgrade.
