Slovenian unions demand tax relief increases to boost net wages
Slovenian trade unions have submitted a joint initiative to the government and the Ministry of Finance requesting an adjustment of income tax reliefs and tax brackets to boost net wages. The unions propose increasing general and other tax reliefs and tax bracket values by at least 10%, citing the legal requirement that adjustments must reflect at least 50% of the average monthly wage growth. According to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, wage growth for June was 8.3% compared to the previous year.
Additionally, the unions are calling for an update to non-taxable amounts for reimbursements and other employment-related income. They note that these amounts have remained unchanged since 2022, despite annual inflation rates between 12.7% and 14.8% during that period. Specifically, they propose a 15% increase for non-taxable amounts related to transport, mileage, field allowances, separation allowances, and solidarity aid, and a 20% increase for meal reimbursements.
