Slovenia’s fourth Janša government ministers take office

On June 5 2026, the fourth government led by Prime Minister Janez Janša in Slovenia completed a series of ministerial handovers, with 15 ministers assuming control of merged and restructured portfolios after parliamentary confirmation.

New interior minister Franci Matoz, who now leads the interior, public administration and digital transformation portfolio, warned that “the situation is not rosy.” Defense minister Valentin Hajdinjak pledged to strengthen personnel, modernise the armed forces and develop cyber‑defence capabilities. Energy and infrastructure minister Jernej Vrtovec said he aims for a stable four‑year term while acknowledging challenges such as energy security.

Other appointments included Janez Cigler Kralj as agriculture minister, Anžet Logar taking the combined economy, labour and sport portfolio, and Ignacija Fridl Jarc heading culture with plans for decentralisation. Outgoing ministers highlighted continuity and cooperation as the new team began its work.
