Slovenian parliament votes to approve Janez Janša’s fourth cabinet

The Slovenian National Assembly convened in an extra session to vote on the ministerial list submitted by Prime‑Minister‑designate Janez Janša for his fourth government, the 16th Slovene cabinet. Fifteen ministers were proposed, with seven posts allocated to Janša’s SDS party, four to NSi, three to the Democrats, one to Focus and none to SLS. The slate includes ten men and five women, many of whom have prior ministerial experience.

Committee hearings of the candidates took place on Monday and Tuesday, after which the assembly debated the list and scheduled a full‑day vote. A majority of present MPs is required to approve the list; if not achieved, a new list must be submitted within ten days. Officials expect the vote to pass without major surprises, despite some opposition criticism of the tight timetable. Following confirmation, the newly appointed ministers will be sworn in and the first session of Janša’s government will commence.

The vote marks the final step in forming the new coalition after the parliamentary elections held two months earlier and will lead to the handover of power from outgoing premier Robert Golob to Janša.
