Slovnaft defends CEZO waste‑to‑energy plant in Bratislava amid opposition
The opposition movement Progressive Slovak (PS) has lodged a formal complaint against the Ministry of Environment’s approval of the Centre for Energy Recovery of Waste (CEZO) project at the Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava. PS argues that the megaplanta would exacerbate air pollution, increase traffic, and pose health risks to residents, calling the consent a “hazard to health” and a betrayal of environmental protection.
Slovnaft counters that CEZO complies with the strict EU Best Available Techniques, that the environmental impact assessment was transparent, and that the plant will safely convert non‑recyclable waste into heat and electricity, reducing landfill use and supplying up to a quarter of Bratislava’s energy needs. The company highlights safety measures such as a hydraulic protection system for underground water and stresses the strategic importance of the project for Slovakia.
