Slow Food designates new Presidios for Italian tomato and garlic
Two Italian agricultural products have been designated as new Slow Food Presidios, to be officially presented at the Terra Madre – Salone del Gusto international event in Turin.
The Borsa di Montone tomato from Val Bisenzio has joined the network of over 400 protected Italian products. This variety, often nicknamed “bruttarello” due to its irregular appearance, was rediscovered through the efforts of local farmers and has had its unique varietal characteristics confirmed by the University of Pisa.
Additionally, the Aglio Rosso di Proceno (Red Garlic of Proceno) from the Tuscia region will be proclaimed a Slow Food Presidio. This recognition aims to strengthen the protection and promotion of a production deeply tied to the agricultural identity of the Viterbo province. The announcement coincides with the 16th edition of the Terra Madre event, which focuses on the theme “Biodiversity – Be Diversity.”
