Slow jogging technique gains popularity in Germany

Slow jogging is a mindful, joint-friendly running method developed by Japanese sports physiologist Prof. Dr. Hiroaki Tanaka. After decades of research in Japan, the trend has gained significant popularity in Germany since 2020.

The technique is characterized by a slow pace and a high cadence of small, short steps, aiming for approximately 180 steps per minute (roughly 45 steps every fifteen seconds). This method is designed to promote fitness while reducing common running issues such as knee pain, shin splints, and side stitches.

In Germany, the practice is supported by the German Wellness Association through the 'Slow Jogging Germany' initiative, which also provides training for instructors.
