Slow Living movement expands from food to travel and lifestyle

The Slow Food movement, founded by the late Carlo Petrini in response to the expansion of fast food in Rome, has evolved into a broader lifestyle philosophy. Originally a protest against the arrival of McDonald's in Italy, the movement advocates for food that is ‘good, clean, and fair,’ emphasizing environmental respect and dignity for producers.

This philosophy of intentionality has expanded into various sectors, including Slow Fashion, Slow Cities, and Slow Health. A more recent development is the rise of ‘Slow Travel,’ a trend where travelers seek more conscious and less rushed experiences. Experts note that while the desire for immediate gratification often drives tourism, the digital nomadism and lifestyle shifts brought about by the pandemic have accelerated the demand for more meaningful, slower-paced travel.
