SM Entertainment takes legal action over AI fakes and malicious posts

SM Entertainment has announced it is taking strict legal action against individuals creating and distributing illegal content targeting its artists, Lim Yoona and aespa’s Winter.

The agency has already filed criminal complaints regarding the use of artificial intelligence to create manipulated images of Lim Yoona without her consent. SM Entertainment is currently gathering evidence of these AI-generated images and the subsequent spread of false information across social media and online communities.

Separately, the company is pursuing legal measures against malicious posts targeting Winter. These include defamation, insults, personal attacks, and sexual harassment across various platforms such as X, Instagram, and YouTube. SM Entertainment stated it will follow a policy of zero tolerance, meaning it will proceed with legal procedures without offering leniency or out-of-court settlements. The agency is utilizing both internal monitoring and fan reports via ‘KWANGYA 119’ to secure data for investigations.
