SM Investments partners with PHIVOLCS for disaster resilience

SM Investments Corporation has entered into a partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) to enhance disaster resilience. Through a memorandum of agreement, the SM group will utilize GeoRiskPH, a government platform that aggregates natural hazard and risk data.

SM will employ specific tools such as HazardHunterPH Pro, Geomapper PH, PlanSmart, and GeoAnalyticsPH to evaluate potential geological and hydrometeorological hazards affecting its facilities, assets, and operational sites. The company intends to use this scientific data to inform property decisions, business continuity planning, and long-term investments.

Dr. Teresito C. Bacolcol, Director of PHIVOLCS, noted that such public-private partnerships are essential for sustainable national development and effective disaster risk reduction. Timothy Daniels, representing SM Investments, stated that access to scientific expertise will help strengthen both the company’s businesses and the communities they serve.
