SMA Negeri 1 Negara students win silver medal in Malaysia

Five students from SMA Negeri 1 Negara in Jembrana, Bali, won a silver medal in the Tourism and Culture category at the 3rd International Student Summit (ISS) 2026 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The competition, organized by the Sentosa Foundation in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia and Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability, took place on September 12–13, 2026.

The students presented an innovation titled ‘Tirta Subak: Preserving Bali’s Living Cultural Heritage Through Sustainable Tourism and Community Empowerment.’ The project addresses the threats of agricultural land conversion and the challenges of preserving Balinese traditions. It features an interactive website designed to provide Subak cultural education, promote ecotourism, and facilitate structured community empowerment.

The team, consisting of Ni Putu Vidya Nirmala Suwarbawa, Dewi Ayu Parwati, Jessica Putri Christian, Kevin Reign Jonathan Wang, and Putu Devanya Maheswari, faced initial funding difficulties. The issue was resolved after Jembrana Regent I Made Kembang Hartawan coordinated with Bank BPD Bali to provide Rp20 million in financial support for their participation.
