German market updates: Lufthansa DAX prospects and aviation cost pressures

Several German-listed companies are experiencing significant market activity involving short sellers and index shifts.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG is competing with Fresenius and Qiagen for a potential return to the DAX index. The decision by Deutsche Börse depends on the market value of free float, with Lufthansa needing to reach at least 33rd place to secure a spot.

In the aviation sector, Ryanair Holdings PLC has lowered its passenger forecast for the 2026/27 fiscal year from 216 million to 214 million due to rising fuel costs linked to energy price increases. The airline also warned that profits may decline from previous record levels.

Regarding short selling activity, AIXTRON saw Isabella Capital Management LLP reduce its net short position from 0.61% to 0.58% while the stock price rose. Conversely, Ströer saw PDT Partners, LLC reduce its short position from 0.69% to 0.59% amid a declining share price. SMA Solar Technology is facing increased pressure as Citadel Advisors LLC increased its short position from 0.49% to 0.51%, joining other major short sellers like Marshall Wace LLP.
