PROMIPYME distributes RD$72 million in loans to Barahona entrepreneurs

The National Council for the Promotion and Support of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (PROMIPYME) has distributed RD$72 million in financing to approximately 350 to 372 entrepreneurs and small business owners in the province of Barahona, Dominican Republic.

During an event held at the Universidad Católica Tecnológica de Barahona (UCATEBA), PROMIPYME Director General Fabricio Gómez Mazara highlighted that a significant portion of the credits—ranging from 66% to 76% depending on the report—was directed toward women entrepreneurs. Additionally, some reports indicate that roughly 40% of the benefits reached single-parent households.

In conjunction with the financial distribution, PROMIPYME and UCATEBA signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen the local entrepreneurial ecosystem through training, technical assistance, and continuous education in areas such as business management and financial literacy. The initiative aims to foster economic development within the Enriquillo Region.
