Small businesses in Republika Srpska face rising costs and closures

Small entrepreneurs in Republika Srpska are facing significant financial pressure due to rising operational costs. In Bijeljina, the number of business closures has exceeded new openings for the first time in seven years. Business owners report that monthly obligations, including taxes, social contributions, and utilities, can reach approximately 800 KM, often before any profit is realized.

In the Serbian agricultural machinery sector, a different economic trend is emerging. While 296 companies reported a 7.6 percent increase in revenue in 2025, reaching 29.99 billion dinars, overall profitability fell by 14.9 percent. The number of companies reporting losses has grown by nearly 74 percent over the last two years.

Conversely, the company iFORM is expanding its operations within Bosnia and Herzegovina. The automotive component manufacturer plans to invest up to three million euros in a new, robotized production facility in Nevesinje. The project is expected to eventually employ 100 workers.
